Thank you, Andrew Hussie

I was 18 minutes shy of getting this finished in time for 4/13, but here it is: my contribution to the Homestuck fandom for its final Upd8.

I was one of those people who took one look at Homestuck a few years back and thought “What the hell is this even supposed to be? Why are there so many people who like this?” Granted, I was also one of the people who looked only at images from the first Act and only ever saw the trolls and Alpha kids in fanart. But funnily enough, it’s that same fanart that made me curious. I didn’t know anything about the human characters, but some of the pieces of fanart I saw of them and the trolls looked so phenomenal. It baffled me how something so odd and boring-looking could spawn such amazing works of art!

About 4 years ago I made a promise to myself that I would read the story all the way through until whenever the trolls were introduced, so that I could sate my curiosity without simply looking up the wiki, and to this day I couldn’t be happier with myself for that decision. Homestuck changed who I am for the better, not only as an artist and storyteller myself,but as a person. Watching the trials these four 12-year-olds had to go through, the feats they accomplished in their strange world of deadly games and card storage, and the foes they stood up against bravely helped me to grow up with them. I ascended with John, my sky poured black rain with Rose, I was made to look into my own terrifying past with Dave, and I was able to see my own shortcomings and insecurities with Jade.

From the very bottom of my heart, thank you Andrew Hussie for this story that you’ve given us and helped you give to us along the way. I’m one of many who eagerly await what you want to bring us next! Happy birthday John Egbert, and good luck.
